Iowa City, Ia. ? Iowa City was a couples retreat for the first families of American politics on Friday.
President Barack Obama was accompanied during his rally on the University of Iowa campus not only by Vice President Joe Biden, but also First Lady Michelle Obama and Second Lady Jill Biden.
The vice president introduced his running mate, praising Obama?s courage, compassion and the ?steel in his spine.?
?Folks, this president?s going to level the playing field again and bring the middle class back in the game, for a change,? Biden said. ?He knows how America?s built. He knows it was built by a growing, great middle class, and he knows and I know something our opponents either don?t know or seem to have forgotten: America is not on the decline. America is on the rise.?
Biden also noted Iowa?s familiarity with the Obama, who won the 2008 Iowa caucuses en route to his general election victory four years ago.
?You folks in Iowa, you folks on campus know the president better than about anybody in any state,? he said. ?And you know he only has one gear ? forward, forward, forward, forward.?
Biden?s remarks were limited to about 3 minutes ? a remarkably short time for a politician well-known for his stem-windery ? before he introduced Obama.
Michelle Obama and Jill Biden appeared as Obama finished his remarks, joining Obama on stage and then greeting people in the crowd.
