(AP) ? No. 1 Alabama actually trailed for a change, a predicament that lasted a grand total of 15 seconds.

Amari Cooper caught two touchdown passes from AJ McCarron and Christion Jones returned a kickoff 99 yards for another score, leading the Crimson Tide to a 33-14 victory over Mississippi Saturday night after a rare and early deficit.

The Tide (5-0, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) trailed briefly, 7-6, for the first time in regulation since last year's Tennessee game, a span of about 10 games. The Rebels (3-2, 0-1) put up a fight against a team that had been walloping opponents by nearly 37 points on average, but still lost their ninth straight SEC opener.

"It was a hard-fought win for us," Alabama coach Nick Saban said. "I think people probably don't give Ole Miss enough credit. They played hard. They were physical. Their offense is difficult to defend."

Saban had tried to keep his players focused by broadcasting Tim Tebow's memorable speech after the Rebels upset Florida four years ago in the weight room and meeting rooms. Alabama goes into its open week without needing such a podium prompter.

McCarron completed 22 of 30 passes for 180 yards and Eddie Lacy gained much of his 82 yards in the fourth quarter when Alabama put it away with Jeremy Shelley's third and fourth field goals of the game.

The Tide's defense had three interceptions to bail out an offense that sputtered at times.

"Couldn't be more proud of the effort," Rebels first-year coach Hugh Freeze said. "Real pleased with the effort and fight our kids showed. They laid it on the line. They represented Rebel nation and the university very well.

"Our special teams were atrocious. We turned the football over because of us being greedy. It's hard to drive the football on the defense that they have."

Alabama totaled 305 yards against a defense that gave up 66 points and 676 yards to Texas two weeks ago. The Rebels gained 218 yards in a game that was largely controlled by the defenses after days when SEC teams like Texas A&M and Georgia rolled up 50-plus points.

Lacy had 12 carries for 43 yards through three quarters. Cooper collected eight catches for 84 yards.

McCarron broke Brodie Croyle's school mark of 190 consecutive passes without an interception. He finished the game with 206 in a row.

Bo Wallace was 15-of-26 passing for 123 yards for Ole Miss and was intercepted twice. Jeff Scott, the SEC's No. 5 rusher, was limited to 49 yards on 19 carries with a touchdown.

Ole Miss did something no other team had done in about 10 games: Got a lead on Alabama in regulation. It lasted only as long as it took Jones to run back the ensuing kick.

Scott cut inside for a 1-yard touchdown early in the second quarter for a 7-6 lead. That ended the Tide's streak at 603 minutes, 46 seconds dating back to a 3-0 first quarter deficit against the Volunteers last season.

It was fleeting. Jones raced untouched for a touchdown after grabbing the ball on a high bounce at the goal line and Alabama scored two more TDs before halftime to surge to a 27-7 lead.

It was Alabama's first kick return for a TD since Trent Richardson did it against Duke on Sept. 18, 2010.

"When they scored ... I kind of wanted to change the atmosphere of the game, the flow of the game, and not make it so the offense had to drive down," he said. "In my mind I was thinking, 'Yeah, let's go ahead and get one to the house, let's change the atmosphere of the game.'"

Mission accomplished for Jones.

Then, Dee Milliner intercepted a pass that Wallace threw right to him. Three plays later, McCarron hit the playmaking freshman Cooper for a 16-yard touchdown. It was ruled incomplete, but a review overturned the call after replays showed he had possession with a foot in bounds and the ball stretched just across the goal line.

Cooper reached over Frank Crawford in the end zone for a 12-yard touchdown. Both his scores were on third-down plays.

The Tide defense picked off passes on consecutive on consecutive drives after Ole Miss scored its first touchdown.

"That was the turning point in the game," Saban said. "We really only put one true drive together. Those turnovers were really the difference in the game."

Ole Miss didn't score again until Randall Mackey's 12-yard touchdown run with 6:35 left in the third quarter trimmed the deficit to 27-14. The Rebels converted two fourth-down plays on the drive, on a Jeff Scott run and catch.

The Rebels had one final chance to stay in the game. They inched across midfield midway through the fourth but had to punt and Alabama ran most of the clock down with a ground game mostly held in check before getting another field goal.

"The mistakes really hurt us," Mackey said "We kind of hurt ourselves really. We wanted to hit them in the mouth and we did. When you play Bama, they're the best of the best. It gives us confidence in the way we played. We've just got to stop the mistakes.

"Every time you play Alabama, it's their defense. You can't give them anything."

Islamists smash Sufi saint's tomb in northern Mali

BAMAKO (Reuters) - Heavily armed Islamist fighters in Mali destroyed the tomb of a local Sufi saint near Timbuktu on Saturday, witnesses said, the latest attack on traditional shrines in the rebel-occupied north.

The destruction of the tomb of Almirou Mahamane Assidiki in Goundam came just months after a number of other shrines in the UNESCO-listed city of Timbuktu, 90 km (55 miles) to the south, were reduced to rubble, underscoring the threat to the region's ancient heritage from the rebels' extremist ideology.

"Last night they arrived in several vehicles and told the elders that the tomb of Saint Almirou would be destroyed," Aliou Ahmadou Toure, a resident in Goundam, told Reuters.

Local people tried to protest but were powerless to protect the shrine from men wielding shovels and pick-axes, Toure said.

"Some armed men surrounded the cemetery while a second group, chanting "God is Great", destroyed the tomb inside."

A local politician who was also in the town on Saturday confirmed the incident.

It was not immediately clear which of the Islamist groups controlling Mali's north was involved in the incident but they have previously said they are protecting Islam from idol worship.

Sufi Islam, which reveres saints and sages with shrines, is popular across much of northern Mali.

The rebellion - launched first by Tuareg separatists in January but since hijacked by Islamists - has forced more than 400,000 people from their homes and split the nation in two, with the Bamako government controlling just southern zones and mix of Islamist groups in the north.

Historians say cultural losses are also great, with attacks on tombs and shrines pulverizing part of the history of Islam in Africa, which includes a centuries-old message of tolerance.

2,000 US troops dead in Afghanistan

The international coalition in Afghanistan said earlier that one of its service members was killed in a suspected insider attack by Afghan forces.

A US official said that the dead service member was American.

The number of American dead reflects an Associated Press count of those members of the armed services killed inside Afghanistan since the US-led invasion on October 7 2001.

At least two Afghan soldiers were also killed in the attack at an Afghan army checkpoint in Wardak province, said Shahidullah Shahid, a provincial government spokesman.

An Afghan soldier turned his gun on the Americans and started shooting, Mr Shahid said. He said the checkpoint was in Sayd Abad district, just outside a joint US-Afghan base.

"Initial reports indicate that a misunderstanding happened between Afghan army soldiers and American soldiers," Mr Shahid said. He said investigators had been sent to the site.

An Afghan military spokesman declined to comment.

Afghan soldiers and policemen - or militants in their uniforms - have gunned down more than 50 foreign troops so far this year, eroding the trust between coalition forces and their Afghan partners.

An equal number of Afghan policemen and soldiers also died in these attacks, giving them reason as well to be suspicious of possible infiltrators within their ranks.

AIRFLOW MANAGEMENT - Data Center Talk

Data centers consume about 25 to 30 times more electricity compared to the normal office spaces. This calls for an energy efficient design of the data center that can save money and reduce electricity use.

?Data center design is a relatively new stream that contains a dynamic and evolving technology. The most efficient data centers incorporate modern design technologies that are cost-effective and energy efficient. Short design cycles lead to incomplete assessment of the full design requirements. Most of these short design cycles ultimately lead to just scaling up the older versions of design of office spaces.

Modern data centers house server racks in a fashion that leads to concentration of the heat loads. In facilities of different sizes, starting from a small data center for a few office buildings to a large co-location facility; design of the center to precisely control air flow is of utmost importance. Air flow through the room for efficient removal of the accumulated equipment heat has a strong impact on the reliability and the energy efficiency of the entire data center.

Air management includes all the minute details of design that are required to minimize or curtail the mixing of cool air supplied to the room with the hot air rejected from the room. When it is designed correctly, it helps in reducing the operating and maintenance costs of the equipment and other issues caused by the thermal heating of the devices.

The main design issues related to air management are:

  • Location of the data center
  • Location of the cooling equipments
  • Equipments required for intake and exhaust ports
  • Configuration
  • Air flow patterns in the room

Principles of air flow management:

  • Use of hot and cold-aisle configurations can double-up the cooling efficiency of the data center.
  • With the aide of an airside economizer, air management can reduce data center cooling costs by over 60%
  • Removing hot air immediately through the exhaust improves efficiency rather than mixing the hot air with the incoming cold air.
  • Equipment environmental temperature specifications refer primarily to the air being drawn in to cool the system.
  • A higher difference between the return air and supply air temperatures increases the maximum load density possible in the space and can help reduce the size of the cooling equipment required, particularly when lower-cost mass produced package air handling ?units are used.
  • Poor airflow management will reduce both the efficiency and capacity of computer room cooling equipment.

?Therefore an effective air flow management system can bring down the costs and power consumption rates to a great extent. Design of these systems also play a very important role in the quality, reliability, and security of data centers.

Real Estate Buying Tips That Can Work For You | Eric Chua : Life ...

With all there is to consider, location, financing, inspections and more, the home buying game can make a sane person nutty. It?s very important that you learn all the ins and outs of successful home buying.

As a prospective home buyer, you should keep in mind that you aren?t buying a house for the decor. You should base your decision on the condition and structure of the house. If you base your buying decisions on only the home?s decor, you could pay for it later because you failed to see a large structural problem.

TIP! Each agent should connect with former clients on special occasions to maintain the relationship. Sending them a message is a great reminder for how much you helped them with their home purchase experience.

Write down all the important questions that you need to ask potential real estate agents. Be sure your questions are important, such as the number of homes that they were able to sell in the particular area you?re interested in and the total number of homes that they were able to sell in the past year. The real estate agent should be ready to answer any of your inquiries in a professional way.

If you?re getting an appraiser, be sure they have 5 years experience. Do not use an appraiser that is suggested by your real estate agency. You might have a conflict of interest in this situation. State agencies regulate all appraisers, so check your appraiser?s license or certifications before hiring him.

When shopping for a new house, it is advisable to take someone with you who is more experienced with purchasing real estate or new homes. Many people may notice things in the homes that are wrong that you may not have. Encourage them to question the realtor about the house as well.

TIP! Go for the home of your dreams. Some will advise you not to upgrade to a larger home, but you should realize that there are those who say it?s a great time to do so.

Always do some research about the neighborhood before buying property. If the neighborhood is not to your liking, you could be miserable very quickly with your purchase. If you do not have a good feel for the neighborhood, then you may have issues in the future.

You should think about utilizing the services of a real estate lawyer when you are working with foreclosure properties. There are many complications that can come up when you are buying a pre-foreclosed or foreclosed home. It is wise to have legal representation that is on the lookout for your best interests. In the end, this could pay for itself and save you a lot of headaches.

Hire your own people to provide support services when you decide to purchase a residence. It can be tempting to use the appraisers and house inspectors that the seller has chosen. No one wants to go out and spend money on something that could be free. Nevertheless, you are safer in the long run if you find people you know you can trust to protect your interests. Having someone on your side will save you a lot of money over time.

TIP! It really is a buyer?s market when it comes to real estate. Upsets in the real estate market have resulted in low prices for buyers.

Always establish what your main goals are. Make sure you know all of your issues, and set the expectations for every one of them. Deal with your priorities first and consider some things as deal-breakers if they cannot be solved. Remember that you might not get everything you hope to get, so stay flexible.

It is critical to thoroughly understand the terms of a mortgage loan when you purchase a home. It is essential that you know exactly how much you will be paying every month and what the total cost of the loan over the entire length of the mortgage will amount to.

Keep tabs on pre-foreclosures. If you can devote a significant amount of time to searching for an investment property, you should look into pre-foreclosure properties. Homes that are in the pre-foreclosure stage are homes whose owners are delinquent on their mortgage. Most lenders can provide you with a list of local pre-foreclosure properties; you might also place advertisements offering to purchase houses with cash. In either case, have a conversation with the owner of the moment and ascertain what they owe, then offer that amount plus a few grand. You can sometimes benefit greatly by this method, particularly if the payoff is much lower than market value.

TIP! A steady, non-confrontational approach is best when you decide to buy a property and enter the negotiating phase. A lot of people want to get a good deal, and begin acting aggressively; they end up doing themselves more harm than good.

Before purchasing a new home, make sure the property has adequate parking included in the price. This holds especially true for properties that do not feature driveways. Without a good amount of parking near your house, you might have to park far away, and this can be troublesome in a number of situations.

Always do your homework before buying property. If you do not research the property you are interested in purchasing, you may make a bad decision and purchase a piece of property that will cost you time and money. Therefore, it is very important to find out all the information that you can such as the crime rate, property age and what the surrounding area offers.

Remember that you aren?t all in a war and it can be beneficial to stay in touch with the more experienced real estate investors in your area. They may know of a property that isn?t right for them, but may be perfect for you. It?s a great method to find a diamond in the rough that others haven?t found.

TIP! Before buying a home, get an inspector to examine it. If the house you?re looking at requires serious renovation work, you need to know it before buying it.

When you are preparing to purchase a home, you already know the asking price but determining your offer is an important consideration. Be respectful when explaining your offer to the seller, and you will be able to compromise on a good price for both of you.

Listen to the advice of your real estate agent, do your own research, and have a checklist to complete all necessary paperwork when buying a home. Use these tips when searching to avoid pitfalls that many new home buyers get plagued with. When the hunt is finally over, enjoy your new

NFL refs approve deal, ready for Sunday games

IRVING, Texas (AP) -- NFL referees are ready to go unnoticed again, just as they prefer.

The refs approved a new eight-year contract with the league by a 112-5 vote Saturday, officially ending a lockout that led to three weeks of increasingly chaotic games run by replacement officials who drew the attention of everyone from the average fan to President Barack Obama.

After a few hours of final preparations with league officials, the next stop for the referees will be the airport. Most will be heading straight to their Sunday game sites.

''It was pretty much 'Come on in and vote,''' said Scott Green, president of the referees' association. ''We're going to talk football now. We're going to stop talking about CBAs and lockouts and now we're going to talk about rules and video and getting ourselves ready to work football games.''

They may get ovations similar to the one bestowed on the crew that worked Thursday's Cleveland-Baltimore game with the tentative deal in place. Before long, they expect to go back to being mostly anonymous and sometimes hated. They're OK with both.

''The last Super Bowl that I worked, when we got in the locker room, I said, 'You know, the best thing about this game, nobody will remember who refereed this game,''' Green said. ''That's how we like to work.''

The referees met for about an hour and a half Friday night to go over the contract, then gathered for another 30 minutes Saturday morning before approving the contract.

''We are obviously pleased to hear it,'' NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said in an email to The Associated Press on Saturday.

Because they were aware of the financial parameters, most of the discussion by the referees involved non-economic issues such as year-round work and developmental squads, said Tim Millis, the association's executive director.

The deal came quickly this week after an increasing chorus of complaints became impossible to ignore when a disputed touchdown call on the final play gave the Seattle Seahawks a victory over the Green Bay Packers on national television Monday night. Many thought the ruling of a Seattle touchdown instead of a Green Bay interception was botched, and the labor dispute drew public comments from Obama and his Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

By late Wednesday, the sides had a contract calling for refs' salaries to increase from an average of $149,000 a year in 2011 to $173,000 in 2013, rising to $205,000 by 2019. The current defined benefit pension plan will remain in place for current officials through the 2016 season or until the official earns 20 years' service.

The defined benefit plan will then be frozen. Retirement benefits will be provided for new hires, and for all officials beginning in 2017, through a defined contribution.

Beginning with the 2013 season, the NFL will have the option to hire a number of officials to work year-round. The NFL also can retain additional officials for training and development and assign those officials to work games. The number of additional officials will be determined by the league.

The officials that worked Thursday's Ravens-Browns game were cheered from the moment they walked onto the field. The difference between the regular crew and replacements was clear. The officials kept the game in control, curtailing the chippy play and choppy pace that had marred the first three weeks of the regular season.

''I think the thing we're most proud of is the lesson that we all learned,'' Green said. ''If you're going to be in a professional league, you've got top-notch coaches, you need professional officials as well.''

Obama's lead over Romney dips to 5 points: Reuters/Ipsos poll

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama's lead over Republican Mitt Romney dipped slightly to five percentage points ahead of next week's first debate in the race for the White House, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Friday.

Obama leads Romney among likely voters by 47 percent to 42 percent in the daily online tracking poll, down from Thursday's 7-point advantage of 49 percent to 42 percent.

"I don't think this is a big worry for Obama, but it does support what we've been saying all along - this is going to be a close race," Ipsos pollster Julia Clark said.

"I expect we're going to start seeing these numbers move even closer as we get nearer to Election Day," she said.

The two White House contenders meet on Wednesday in the first of three debates that will set the tone for the final five-week sprint to the November 6 election.

Obama has opened up a measurable lead over Romney in most national polls and in surveys of key swing states that could ultimately decide the election.

But Romney stabilized his reeling campaign in the last week after several recent setbacks, most notably the release of a secretly recorded video showing him telling wealthy donors that Obama supporters were government-dependent victims who did not pay taxes.

The Reuters/Ipsos tracking poll has found Obama's ratings slipping over the past week on a range of personal attributes, although he still leads Romney in all categories except "being a man of faith."

Obama lost ground on attributes like "understands people like me", where he is down four points from 46 percent to 42 percent, and "is a good person," which is down four points from 47 percent to 43 percent.

Romney's personal ratings remained steady on most attributed, although he declined three points to 21 percent on "would be fun to meet in person."

The precision of the Reuters/Ipsos online polls is measured using a credibility interval. In this case, the poll has a credibility interval of 3.8 percentage points for likely voters and 3.5 percentage points for registered voters.

How do American moms feel about working outside the home?

mom at home

?

Re-posted from the latest Family In America newsletter:

A recent survey hosted by ForbesWoman and TheBump.com attempts to capture how American women feel about the economy and working outside the home. It found that working moms are, in general, ?an unhappy lot,? further supporting the fact that men and women are not interchangeable cogs in the employment and domestic worlds.

Of the 1,000 women surveyed, 67% worked outside the home. The remaining 33% were stay-at-home moms. The majority of both groups agreed that staying at home with the children was a luxury few could afford. Most (69%) of working moms said their families needed the extra income. But the conflict between children and finances left all women feeling pressured: ? . . . more than half (52%) of the women surveyed say their partners or others sometimes make them feel that they aren?t devoting enough time to their child/children. And 44% of stay-at-home moms say their partner or others sometimes make them feel like they?re not pulling their own financial weight.

Neither sex, apparently, can decide whether family finances or the children should be women?s primary focus. Around 10 percent of stay-at-home moms wish they had remained in the office rather than leaving to have children. Overall, though, stay-at-home moms are more content with their lot: Almost half (47%) of working moms believed they would be happier at home, while only 19% of stay-at-home moms wanted to trade places with their working sisters.

The Family in America is a journal of public policy published online by The Howard Centre for Family, Religion and Society. Its current issue has a very interesting discussion of the much maligned 1950s.

?Parks and Recreation? ? Soda Tax episode review

Leslie tries to combat the obnoxious consumption of soda with her first bill as councilwoman.

I know this is a mighty risk I?m taking here, considering the powder keg politics is in our national landscape. But I will freely admit to you today that I am?a total liberal. That?s right! I?m a tree-hugging hippie and proud of it. Except not really. I mean, I?m far too socially progressive to ever consider voting for the current crop of Republicans, but I?m not a bleeding heart. I?m not an Obama apologist?I oppose him on several issues?but I?d say 90% of the time our views fall in line. And while never explicitly stated, Leslie Knope sure seems to lean left. After all, the ripped from the headlines story this week?s episode stems from Mayor Bloomberg?s legislative ban on selling sodas over 16 ounces. I must admit, even I thought that was taking it too far. While I have never been a soda person (unless as a chaser or mix for alcohol), I find this slightly oppressive. While I applaud health initiatives, and think government should take a bigger role in our well-being (how about an?actual single-payer healthcare system?), I don?t think telling citizens what they can and cannot ingest is just.

?Parks,? however, took it to the extreme. In Pawnee, more so than even NYC, obesity is a monstrosity. And it?s not difficult to see why considering that a ?small? soda is 64 ounces. By venturing into hyperbole, the show doesn?t take a position by having it?s protagonist champion a tax, because it?s an apples and oranges comparison. In this case, it would seem that the restaurant association is over-manipulative and purposefully promoting harmful addictions to their products to make more money. In this case, regulation seems called for. And by using this satirical subject mater, the show also emphasizes why it?s such a feel-good show. It doesn?t pander, it doesn?t create division among its viewers. It sides with reason, it sides with good-hearted individuals. It sides with civility. While Ron is on the side of small government, he doesn?t loathe Leslie. Truthfully, she?s one of the people he cares most about?not that he would ever admit it. It?s almost absurd to suggest that a libertarian such as Swanson, and a socialist (kidding) like Leslie would get along, and yet I buy it. I slurp it up like a gigantic soda because it?s a vision of social harmony that I embrace. Even if the country is content to rip at the seams, I?ll support community before patriotism every time. I?m much more loyal to the human spirit than I am to some arbitrary boundary that tells me how I should feel.

Speaking of love and all that gooey stuff, we start with Ben and April getting care packages from Leslie and Andy. Leslie gives Ben twelve boxes worth that includes waffle mix and new PJs. Andy gives April a stuffed three-legged dog to remind her of Champion, plus his dirty clothes. And a picture of him wearing a bandana for undies. As Ben says, ?Horrifying.? April, however, gets choked up??I love him so much.?

Leslie Knope?s first act as councilwoman is this tax on soda. Ann has being doing research for her and it shows that she could definitely lower the rate of diabetes in the town if the bill passes. We also get the visual gag of Ann pulling out a tub which represents the sugar consumed by an average Pawnee child every month. There?s also the revealing of some of Pawnee?s premier eateries?Paunch Burger, Big N? Wide, Fat Sack, Colonel Plump?s Slough Trough. Ron objects to this tax because it?s just her personal quest to babysit every citizen. And of course the freedom to consume gross amounts of meat at these establishments is something he frequently enjoys. He professes, ?Damn I love this country so much.?

At the parks department, Chris and Tom are training Andy for his physical exam to become a cop. He has to be able to run 2 miles in 25 minutes. I haven?t run long-distance since high school, and am admittedly in terrible shape and that sounds like a cinch. Hell, in high school we would fail if we couldn?t run a mile in 8 minutes. Andy, evidently is fatter than I because he runs the two in 29:53. He?falls on the track panting and stripping down to his skivvies.

Ann and Leslie meet with Kathryn Pinewood of the Restaurant Association and are aghast at her standards. She?s clearly swindling consumers, only providing one size that is smaller than 64 ounces and it?s no bigger than a Dixie cup?called ?the little swallow.? And she charges only a nickel less! A regular is a gallon and the next size up is ?child size.? No, not fit for a child, but roughly the size of a two year-old if liquefied?512 ounces. Leslie assures that the tax will be passed, but Pinewood threatens that if it does, one hundred restaurant employees will be laid off.

In D.C, Ben is having trouble with his interns. April backs up his rant about their ?crazy random font differences.? He calls for Times New Roman only (Amen!) and 12 point.?Ben calls up Jenn Barkley (Kathryn Hahn?s character from last season) and says he plans to fire some interns after finding a cartoon drawing where he has a stick up his butt. Although he cannot, because they are all super connected. One is related to Donald Rumsfeld, another is the child of Ben Bernake?s dentist. So, instead, he going to be their buddy. He starts trying to use slang, and be ?down,? organizing a pre-work Ultimate Frisbee. He?s totally one of the bros.

Chris motivates Andy to run faster by asking why he wants to be a cop. He says he wants to provide for April, that she is the only thing he cares about. Nothing else matters. This energizes him, but devastates Chris who realizes as he did last season that he has no one. They went to this well WAY too often last year after trying to show that the upbeat, perpetually perky Chris Traeger had the capacity for sadness. Oh, and Tom gets his pop culture reference in by tricking out the pace car to replicate Han Lu?s ride in the Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Any Tokyo Drift reference is instantly funny. What a ridiculous yet enjoyable movie.

Now that the vote is complicated by the weight of lost jobs, Leslie conducts a public forum. Of course, the Pawnee common folk don?t disappoint. One calls for the abolishment of all taxes (Tea Party, much?) and another is a woman-hater. The last called for a recall of Leslie Knope since she is calling for him to lose his job by voting for the tax. Of course, Leslie takes this to heart because she is a devoted public servant who feeds off approval from her constituents. When she?s in the chambers and asked to vote, she pukes in her gallon cup of soda that she drank before the proceedings. Ah, irony, my old friend.

When Chris and Andy are about to give the run another shot, Andy jets off, with April in mind to inspire him. Chris collapses, realizing he has nothing to run for. After getting blood tests done, he is proven to be physically in peak condition, as always. But Tom accurately diagnoses his issue as mental. He hesitates to tell his boss this, but he thinks a therapist might be a good idea. Any time he?s forced to think of something sad, he breaks down. It?s an interesting angle, the perfect specimen being a discombobulated mess mentally. I suppose this redeems the subplot, but it better mean ?climbing the Mt. Everest of his mind? for Chris. I?m going to be sorely disappointed if we endure sad Chris for another half season. Humanizing one-beat characters is what this show continues to excel at. Give me a reason to wonder if I truly know Chris. Hell, giving Rob Lowe a reason to go dark isn?t a bad thing.

Ben tries to keep up his cool boss charade, but when he finds another drawing of him?this time in his Ultimate gear, but still with a stick up his butt?he breaks. He tells Ellis he doesn?t care who his connections are, but he?s cut off when Ellis says it wasn?t him, it was his daughter. Ben is confused, but then Ellis points to April. He?s not sure what to be more enraged about. That everyone thinks he?s her dad, or that April made a fool of him. ?Sorry, dad? she sort of apologizes. He scolds April later after she tries to cheer him up with a fake memo using thirty different fonts. He expects some semblance of professionalism, especially when he took a chance on her, believing she?s smart. He asks only for 15 percent effort. She negotiates for 12, and Ben?s infuriated. I was so distraught that the episode would end without redemption for April. She evolved so much last season, starting to embody a gentler, more selfless side, I was angered they would have her regress. Instead, she gets to tell off Ellis in the creepiest, most malicious way possible. Yet it was somehow endearing. Well done, team.

The highlight of the episode is Leslie seeking advice from Ron. As I said, it?s a dynamic that sets the show apart. I especially liked the idea that at the onset, Ron wanted Leslie fired on four different occasions. Eventually, he begun to admire her conviction and would rather have him working with him than against him. Leslie doubting herself can often seem like ?Parks? running in circles, but due to the circumstances it works. Now she?s going to face severe consequences for her initiatives. Ron hits the nail on the head thought when he says she hasn?t lost her conviction, she?s just in unknown terrain. He gives her a compass, ?because every good adventurer needs one.? She votes ?Ay? and it?s not determined yet if the job losses are a bluff or not. I hope they aren?t. Leslie needs to endure some backlash in order to leap the tall buildings we know this superwoman is capable of bounding over.

This week?s installment didn?t set my world on fire like the season premiere. While Ben trying to be bros with his interns, or just any attempt of his at being ?cool? really, is comedic gold. Adam Scott is awkwardness personified, and it?s charming as hell. Leslie and Ron as mentor/mentee has become the show?s heart, but I could have done without the Chris/Andy plot. While I see comedy aplenty resulting from Andy?s foray into law enforcement, Chris was a downer this week. That was not a pleasant surprise. I would still rather spend time with these genuine folk than any of the raging pundits on cable news though, so I?ll count my blessings. This show?s sugary sweetness can?t be bad for you. And heck, if it is, maybe I can have my cavities tended to by someone who has a Washington elite?s ear!

L.O.L.Ls: Laugh Out Loud Lines

- Leslie: What did you put in this sugar, it?s so good!

- April: Papyrus? Come on people. There?s no place for that in a professional office setting.?

- Ben: ?They call me Divo because I?whip ?em good.?

- Andy: ?I?m never gonna be a cop. I?m gonna have to be a robber.?

- Ben: ?New plan. Instead of firing them, I?m going to kiss their asses like crazy.?

- Ben: ?Ellis, what?s up my male? Grab a slice of ?za, bro!?

- Citizen at public forum: ?I think we should tax all bad things, like racism. And women?s vaginas.

- Ann: ?You look weird.? Leslie: ?So do you! That?s a lie, you always look beautiful.?

- Andy: ?It sounds like you?re going through some tough stuff right now. Too bad there aren?t doctors for your mind.?

- Ron: You were stubborn, a pain in my ass, and worst of all, bubbly.?

- April: ?Ben told you to finish the website and if you don?t I swear to God I?m gonna murder you in your sleep. I know where you live. 14th street, right? ?I?m gonna get a melon baller and scoop your eyes out and eat them. And your Congressman uncle is gonna have to buy you a dog to drag your eyeless face around. Understand me? *kisses his nose*?

Rare Disease Science Challenge- Your Call to Action!

If you or a loved one is unlucky enough to be affected by a rare disease then it can be a continued uphill struggle. Your doctor will likely never have seen a case before which means you suffer with symptoms while awaiting diagnosis, and this can sometimes take years. Even when an accurate diagnosis is reached there may be few treatment options; the pharmaceutical companies just aren t interested in developing drugs to treat such a small market. For the majority (>95%) of the 7000 rare diseases there is no FDA approved therapy. Perhaps the cruelest twist of rare diseases, however, is that so many of the patients are young children. The NIH estimates that 50% of rare diseases affect children, and 30% of pediatric cases die before they reach their 5th birthday!

Collectively rare diseases are not rare. The fact is that while a disease might be labeled as rare , the number of persons suffering from one of the thousands of rare diseases is estimated at 10% of the population [1], or approx. 30 million people in the United States and 350 million people globally. Mainstream pharmaceutical companies have long ignored rare diseases. With the increasing de-centralization of scientific research, and the growth of the citizen science movement, however, there has never been a better time to tackle this problem head on. That s exactly what Assay Depot is doing by teaming up with the Rare Genomics Institute ? to bring awareness to the current broken system for diagnosing, treating and curing rare diseases.

The Rare Genomics Institute provides hope to children suffering with a rare disease. Most rare diseases are genetic in nature, caused by a mutation somewhere in the 3.2 billion bases of human DNA. The Rare Genomics Institute uses crowdfunding to pay for sequencing of the sick child s genome and then assembles a network of academic specialists who work together to identify the child s genetic mutation. Now Assay Depot has teamed up with The Rare Genomics Institute to take the process one-step farther, and go on the offensive with the Rare Disease Science Challenge.

The competition is open to researchers, foundations, or everyday people. Families with a child afflicted with a rare disease will have the opportunity to work with a network of academic researchers and use donated research services to develop research proposals tailored to their child?s needs. An expert panel of scientists will evaluate the research proposals with the final winner(s) selected by Facebook voting.

If we can improve the standard of care for just one rare disease we will bring relief to thousands of people, very likely children, who currently suffer. We think that is a dream worth fighting for. I am sure Chris and Hugh Hempel would agree. Their identical twin daughters, Addison and Cassidy, have been diagnosed with Niemann-Pick Type C, a rare, incurable and fatal genetic disease that causes progressive neurological deterioration. This week Global Genes, the leading rare and genetic disease patient advocacy organizations in the world, with the Kauffman Foundation is screening the Hempels story in Hollywood and revealing the grim truth; that diagnosing, treating and curing rare disease is moving at a tedious pace, and leaving heart-rending personal accounts in its path.

How can you help?

If you work for a company that offers research services or makes lab consumables, reagents or instruments ask them to get involved. The great thing about sponsorship is that it will cost your company very little, we re not asking for money, just a donation of time or resources. Does your company make antibodies? How about donating some production capacity? Do you sell DNA sequencers, or mass spec instruments? Could you run some samples in your lab for us?

If you put your mind to it there are a multitude of ways your company could get involved for very little cost, and in return get some great publicity, and help a very worthy cause.

For the rest of you please help publicize the Rare Disease Science Challenge, post it, blog it, tweet it, let s do everything we can to get the word out, and be a part of the solution.

All Sorts Of Tips That Will Help You With Your Personal Finance ...

Posted on Sep 27, 2012 in Credit Score | Comments Off

You may be struggling financially, and concerned about what will happen next. Just go over this article and you?ll be able to find ways to fix your financial situation. Once you learn what you can about your finances, you can deal with any financial situation.

Pay close attention to everything your credit report shows. You have the ability to check into your credit report free of charge. Make sure that you do this twice a year to ensure that there are not any unauthorized changes on your report, or someone has not committed identity theft using your name and information.

Buying a car is a very serious decision. Compare different options and go to different dealers to find the best price for your new vehicle. If you aren?t finding deals you are satisfied with, try going online.

If you participate in online banking take notice of what type of alerts are offered by your bank. Banks utilize modern technologies, like e-mail and text messages, to keep you updated about your account. Sign up for both low balance warnings to prevent overdrafts and unusual withdrawal warnings to catch fraud within minutes.

Have 2 different savings accounts; one that you can dip into on a rainy day, and one that is strictly for emergencies. Depending on your situation, you may choose to save in order to get out of debt or for a future expense.

Try to save money on sheets, blankets and pillow by buying them at a discount store. This could help you in saving both money and time through the years as you maintain the same type of quality when it comes to your sheets. By purchasing your bedding at bargain stores, you can save money.

Work on a budget for yourself and stay with it. While you may be thinking that the money you are spending is well within your means, most likely you are just wasting lots of money each month. Write down every purchase, no matter how small. When the month is almost over, carefully go over each item on your list. That way, you will know when to cut back.

Avoid making bad choices by reducing alcohol consumption. Stick to water when you are out, so that you can make clear-headed decisions that you will not regret later.

Try using free checking accounts. Look at getting an account with a credit union or a local bank; you may also want to check out online banks.

You have to get out of debt before you can rebuild your credit score. It all starts with making essential cutbacks, so you can afford bigger payments to your creditors. For example, consider dining in your own home, instead of grabbing take-out, or limit the amount you spend on social outings. You will have to cut back your spending and sacrifice some things if you are serious about credit repair!

Set aside a portion of your income to protect against unforeseen emergencies. If you have some savings for an emergency you will be protected if you lose your job, get sick, get hurt or face a disaster.

You want to have a high credit score. Having a high credit rating will allow you to have lower interest rates than those with lower scores. Lower credit scores will affect your ability to get housing, cell phones and even jobs with good companies. Safeguard your credit score by making good credit decisions.

Think about putting some money in foreign investments. The easiest way to get some international diversification is via no-load mutual funds that invest in the stock of foreign companies.

Solid plans make for solid finances. When you know specifically what you are saving for, it is a lot easier to stick to your budget and be motivated to reach your goals as soon as you can.

Your old laptop can make you some extra money if you need it. A broken laptop is worth a little something, and one that is working or fixable is worth even more. Even broken electronics can have value, even if it is just enough for a tankful of gas or a some other necessity.

When trading in the Forex market it is important to watch the trends. Always be informed, this way you know when is the best time to buy low and when to sell high. Don?t sell on a downswing or an upswing ever. Have a very clear goal in mind if you are choosing to move your money before the trend has fully played out.

If you really want to immediately improve your financial situation, cease from paying the full price for anything. Lose your affiliation to certain brands and only buy when you have coupons. If your family usually uses Tide, for instance, but you have a good coupon for Gain, choose the less expensive option and pocket the savings.

Do not fall for scams promising you a better credit score by changing your report. Lots of credit repair companies want you to think that they can fix any situation of bad credit. They can?t fulfill such claims, because credit problems are individual. To guarantee success would be a fraud and no one should make this promise.

Now you should better understand finances and be less stressed about them. Use the tips you found here, and keep learning to improve your financial life. This is the start of a new money saving, debt-free you! Enjoy the benefits of becoming financially secure.

- In cases where that you would like to find out more about short term personal loans or possibly loan calculator We tend to highly suggest Credit Deal. Exactly the same money but just much better deals.

(AP) ? Living space in Braunau is scarce, but an imposing Renaissance-era building stands empty in this post-card pretty Austrian town because of the sinister shadow cast by a former tenant: Adolf Hitler.

With its thick walls, huge arched doorway and deep-set windows, the 500-year-old house near the town square would normally be prime property. Because Hitler was born here, it has become a huge headache for town fathers forced into deciding what to do with a landmark so intimately linked to evil.

The building was most recently used as a workshop for the mentally handicapped, which some saw as atonement for the murders of tens of thousands of disabled people by the Nazi regime. But that tenant moved out last year for more modern quarters.

The departure reignited debate on what to do with the house that burst from the town hall chamber into the public domain last week after the mayor declared that he preferred creating apartments over turning the building into an anti-Nazi memorial.

"We are already stigmatized," Johannes Waidbacher told the Austrian daily Der Standard. "We, as the town of Braunau, are not ready to assume responsibility for the outbreak of World War II."

That sparked a storm of criticism, with Waidbacher accused of trying to bury memories of the Nazi past.

The comments were particularly ill-received due to the fact that Braunau's town council only withdrew honorary citizenship from Hitler last year, 78 years after the Nazi dictator was given the accolade ? as did nearly a dozen other towns and cities after checking their archives.

Stung by the criticism, Waidbacher has since stepped back, saying he can conceive of "all possible uses" for the building.

On Thursday, Waidbacher expressed surprise at the vehement reaction his comments caused, saying he did not mean to make light of the significance of the house. "Our town has definitely done its homework as far as its past is concerned," he told The Associated Press.

Nonetheless, concerns about the building's fate continue to reverberate on the ancient cobble-stoned streets of this town of 16,600.

One major fear: The house could fill up with Hitler worshippers if converted into living space.

"These are certainly people we don't want here," said town council member Harry Buchmayr, noting that most visitors are not normal tourists but neo-Nazis stopping to pay homage to Hitler, even though he spent only the first few months of his life in the building.

And it's unclear who else might want to take up residence in the house.

"I wouldn't want to live there," said 19-year-old Susanne Duerr, as she paused from pushing her baby carriage to gaze at the yellow stucco building. "I think I would have a bad conscience."

Other townsfolk old enough to remember the Fuehrer echo that sentiment. Georg Hoedl, 88, recalls Hitler as the man who dragged depression-era Austria and Germany out of the kind of abject poverty that forced him to go begging. But he also is aware of the evil Hitler spawned.

"There should be something else inside, something cultural. But apartments ? I'm not for that," he said

Wife Erika, 73, says that bearing the burden of the house's legacy "wouldn't be pleasant for the tenants ? once they moved in they would be asked about this all the time."

Austria's Interior Ministry has rented the house since 1972 from the owner, a woman in her 60s who refuses to be identified publicly. The ministry has been careful to sublet only to tenants with no history of admiring Hitler. Asked about the debate, Interior Ministry spokeswoman Sonja Jell said the ministry remained "particularly sensitive" about the future uses of the building considering its legacy.

The owner refused a request by Braunau officials to let the city mount a sign on the house warning of the evils of the Nazi past. But an inscription on a chunk of granite on public property near the building calls out to passersby: "Never again fascism, never again war."

The building still has the initials MB in the iron grillwork above the massive wooden doorway. It stands for Martin Bormann, Hitler's private secretary, who bought the house shortly before World War II with thoughts of turning it into a shrine to the dictator.

The house is one of the few remaining structures directly linked to Hitler.

A house in nearby Leonding where he spent some teenage years is now used to store coffins for the town cemetery. At that graveyard, the tombstone marking the grave of Adolf Hitler's parents, a place of pilgrimage for neo-Nazis, was removed last year at the request of a descendant. A school Hitler attended in Fischlham, also near Braunau, displays a plaque condemning his crimes against humanity.

The underground bunker in Berlin where Hitler committed suicide on April 30, 1945, was demolished after the war. It was left vacant until the East German government built an apartment complex around the site in the late 1980s. The apartments, which are still occupied, overlook the German capital's monument to victims of the Holocaust.

Ultimately, it's the owner who will decide the Branau building's fate. She's known to be opposed to turning it into a Holocaust memorial, meaning there's still a chance it could be converted into apartments.

That's a nightmare scenario for Buchmayr, a member of Austria's Socialist Party that has done much over the past four decades to sensitize citizens to their country's Nazi past.

"You can't simply wish it away," Buchmayr said of the house. "Unfortunately we have it here.

"Hitler was born here."

Big Aussie Developers Building Fewer New Homes

Australia?s Housing Industry Association (HIA) reports that many of the company?s largest developers listed in the ?Housing 100? are winding down their building starts due to waning demand. HIA officials say that government reform in the building and real estate industry could help stoke demand but that no one expects any action in the near term. Australia?s property market has been languishing for some and the HIA has been pressuring the government to take action to no effect. The largest developers tracked by the Housing 100 include Metricon Homes, Alcock/Brown-Neaves Group and Hickory Development. For more on this continue reading the following article from Property Wire.

Australia?s largest house builders are building fewer homes and there seems little appetite for improving things in 2013, it is claimed.

Figures from the latest HIA-colorbond Housing 100 report shows that new build starts fell by 7.3% to 48,130 in 2011/12, their lowest level since 1996/1997.

In 2011/12 the largest 100 builders started 35,909 houses, down 11% from 40,183, and 12,221 units and townhouses, up 4% per cent from 11,720. The largest 100 builders held a 35% share of Australia wide housing starts, up slightly from 33% in 2010/11, but below the historical average of 36%.

?This result is consistent with the overall experience of the industry in 2011/2012 where new home building conditions weakened considerably across Australia,? said Housing Industry Association chief economist, Harley Dale.

?The Housing 100 and the entire industry can deliver, and indeed Australia's residents have the requirement for, a considerably higher level of housing starts than has been evident over the last couple of years,? he pointed out.

?Within an environment of subdued demand conditions, both unilateral and cooperative policy reform could generate a much healthier year for new home building in 2012/13. Sadly, evidence of the will to execute such policy action remains far slimmer than Australia requires,? he added.

The report, which ranks the nation?s largest 100 residential builders based on the number of homes started each year, named Melbourne based Metricon Homes was Australia?s largest builder for the second year in a row in 2011/12.

It also shows that Metricon Homes started 2,821 dwellings in 2011/12, all of which were detached houses. The company operates in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, and South Australia.
?
Alcock/Brown-Neaves Group was ranked Australia?s second largest builder in 2011/12 with 2,736 starts, building in the markets of Western Australia and Victoria. Western Australia builder BGC (Australia) was ranked third with 2,692 housing starts.

Hickory Developments Pty Ltd was the nation?s largest multi unit builder for the third consecutive year with 2,163 starts. This result moved the company up the overall rankings ladder from number five in 2010/11 to number four in 2011/12.

Seventeen builders who featured in the 2011/12 Housing 100 did not make the list the previous year. In terms of the largest 20 builders, all were in the Housing 100 the previous year, but four builders moved into the top 20 in 2011/12 from outside that ranking range; Pindan Pty Ltd, Meriton Apartments, Eden Brae Homes and Summit Homes Group.
